Communication with your software takes place via the supplied Matrix-API: DLL files under Windows and Shared- Libraries under Linux and Mac-OSX.

Matrix protects under Windows 16-, 32- and 64-bit programs.

16-bit programs which have to run under Windows NT/2000/XP can also be protected by Matrix without any problems whatsoever as the transition from 16 to 32 bits is automatically controlled by the Matrix DLL’s.

The following diagram explains how it works and how 16- and 32-bit programs protected via Matrix function under Windows 3.x, 95/98, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10.

LPT interface
The addressing of the Matrix modules for the LPT connection in your program is controlled via a VXD driver under Windows 95/98 and via a SYS driver under Windows NT/2000/XP. The use of the VXD driver under Windows 95/98 is optional - addressing can also be carried out directly via hardware and without a VXD driver.

USB interface
The Matrix-Dongle for the USB connection supports basically the «Driver-Mode», which means that a system driver have to be installed. From Hardware Version 5.0 onwards, the USB-Dongle supports additional the operating in «HID-Mode».

In HID-Mode the Matrix-Dongle is recognized automatically by the operating system when the dongle is connected. The advantage in this operating mode is that no driver need to be delivered or installed.

In Driver-Mode it is neccessary to deliver and install a USB driver.
This operating mode is present to mentain backward compatibility to previous hardware versions of the USB-Dongle without HID support.

You have the possibility to set the Matrix USB-Dongle to the desired operating mode
(with- or without Driver) with the programming tool included in the Matrix-Software.
